The Magic Drum – A Family Entertainer Staging in Bangalore
Community Theatre in Support of Bangalore’s Vulnerable Children

Twenty-five actors…
Thirteen stories from around the world…
The dreams of thousands of children…
September 2008 - Bangalore – Based on the overwhelming success of last year’s joint community theatre production, Bangalore Little Theatre and Dream A Dream are teaming up for another family entertainer, The Magic Drum, to be staged at Ranga Shankara and at Ravidra Kalakshetra.
Based on the stories by Sudha Murty, The Magic Drum will thrill children and adults alike through a fun and interactive show. The production brings together a large collection of folk tales from all over the world which have been adapted by the author – funny tales, racy tales, tales of wise men, foolish men, greedy men, not to mention, smart women, clever girls, hapless kings, princes, princesses, hip minstrels, snappy jesters, and animals, the stage production will include a good number of these stories, grouped into five thematic sets. Through a ‘lucky dip’ game with the children in the audience the players will perform the stories that are chosen at random! There will also be room for lots more audience participation through the performance, including sing-alongs..
The production will also raise funds for the work of Dream A Dream – a Banaglore based NGO working to empower children from vulnerable background through life skills programming designed to encourage creativity, confidence, communication and interpersonal skills using fun and engraining activities including sports, creative arts, adventures, civic awareness and fun days.
The Magic Drum will run from August 16th – September 21st at Ranga Shankara, and on September 30th at Kalakshetra with shows at 10:30am and 7:30pm open for the general public.

A special gala performance will take place at the Royal Orchid hotel on September 28th followed by a dinner sponsored by Royal Orchid Hotels, UB Spirits and HDFC. Individual tickets are available for Rs. 1,200.
